I have grown quite tired of the ad nauseum attempts to scientifically excoriate theistic belief. Further, I find the entire idea of being defined by my disbelief in one particular fantasy rather silly. I think it is time that reasoning individuals come to terms with the fact that faith based belief systems are not verifiable. The idea of challenging theists in scientific terms with rules of engagement and common factual touchstones is the atheist's folly. A "truth" in a faith based belief system is whatever a believer determines it to be. There is no quantity of reason or amount of logical dissection that is going to convince or convert faith based believers from their inherited or chosen fantasy. All motivations aside, way too much energy is being wasted in these futile attempts.
I am also not comfortable with the repeated call to arms statements. I cringe when I am beckoned with "My fellow atheists" or "We as atheists need to do X" when quite probably the only thing I have socially or intellectually in common with the crier is our disbelief in an omnipotent creator.
Societal advancement will only come when the reasoning, educated and dis-indoctrinated of our species recognizes that the clinging to myth, fantasy, folklore and urban legend is inherent in the human animal. Accepting this as fact, instead of fighting it, will allow humankind to focus on true amelioration.
Education and absolute individual freedom are the supreme remedies in releasing human beings from the shackles of myth and fantasy. Changing our focus from individual debate and factual analysis one theist at a time, ad infinitum, to a universal effort that focused entirely on education and freedom would win "converts" to reasoned life by the millions.
Imagine a world in the grips of a viral infestation of knowledge and reason! What kind of human advancement can happen when every thinking being is empowered with the freedom to think without the fear of repercussion?
I propose a worldwide declaration of fundamental human rights. This would include three basic "laws" that are broad and far reaching, I call it "The Human Covenant":
1. Every human being has the right to life. All actions, laws and belief systems counter to this fundamental statement should be challenged.
2. Individual rights are the paramount focus of all moral and legislative law. Any canon or mandate based upon faith or theistic proclamation should be seen as a violation of basic human rights.
3. Unfettered education in any and all disciplines should be available to all humans to the breadth and depth of their own individual desire.
On the surface this covenant looks quite simple and perhaps naive. However, imagine the ramifications.
This is a "call to arms" worthy of participation.
