Some are calling it a youth revolution. All over the world people are standing up. They are standing up for big business accountability. They are standing up for their freedom and civil liberties. The United States has long been deemed a mecca of free speech and free thought but in the last ten years a general discourse has began to emerge. People are homeless and unemployed. The middle class is disappearing at a rapid rate and banks have taken the tax payers money, spent it indiscriminately, and continued to steal their homes from under them. Public spending is being blamed for our deficit while corporations are paying no taxes and the war machine rages on.
Forbes Magazine sites that last year General Electric Corporation's tax filing consisted of 24,000 pages when printed out. Last year they generated 10.3 Billion in pretax income and owed zero in federal taxes. As a matter of public record they actually received 1.1 billion dollars in tax benefit. http://www.forbes.com/2010/04/01/ge-exxon-walmart-business-washington-corporate-taxes.htmlBeing a citizen comes with responsibilities. When the state made a mistake on my husbands taxes to the tune of 23,000.00 they showed no mercy and put us through everything short of criminal prosecution. We sit in the "always screwed" (working lower middle class, upper poor class). We still continued to do the right thing. We pay our taxes and file our returns just like everyone else. The difference is we are at the bottom of the barrel and hence we owe. According to CNS News and the CBO study middle class making between 34,300 and 352,900 pay 66.7 percent of all federal taxes. These are individuals not numbers. These are families who are paying their taxes so the banks can claim a large bail out shouldered by the people and continue in a business as usual. Foreclosures have skyrocketed and ordinary citizens are being bled dry. The ones who are without a home are forced to rent and pay twice what they couldn't afford to pay in their homes. Pensions and savings have all been used.
Corporations are not shouldering their weight. Public spending is not to blame for our problems. I don't know about you but in the past three years we have given up our cable and cell phones. We have stopped going out to meals. We have stopped buying unnecessary items all in an attempt to cut our own spending. We own no credit cards and owe no credit card debt yet we still live hand to mouth. The answer that these brilliant politicians have devised involves cutting our education down further. Screwing our unions and laborers. Taking benefits away from the already under paid teachers and nurses. We already have issues with unemployment and my hope was that our children would at least be educated enough to stand on a global market and relocate if necessary but the truth of the matter is our students are lacking some fundamental aspects of education and that is our fault. This nation is complacent.
We must unite as a rational force to be reckoned with. There is a strong organization emerging and with a little help from the "Youth", we are seeing the West stand up for the first time in decades. The UK group Uncut has organized bail ins and peaceful protests all across the UK targeting banks and big business.

The US has now joined the drum beat and declared Saturday February 26, 2011 our day. It's a day for us to let the government know how we feel about their disregard for a middle class America. It is our day as the "Youth" to ask, "What about us?" We have paid our share as well yet no one hears us. My social security will surely be gone by the time I get to 65 and yet I have paid it for the last seventeen years. If we do not make the companies at the top pay a share how will continue to afford their services? I implore you to join your local cause get involved in these days of change. Support your neighbor and family as they struggle through this depression that seems unrelenting. Take a stand America we have so much work to do and it all begins with you.
